Every year, the Jazz Section organises a competition with varying themes, such as:

• Women composers in jazz
• The music of Joni Mitchell
• Miles Davis
• Happy Birthday Charlie Parker, Dave Brubeck, Yusef Lateef
• Old bottles, new wine
• What are your roots?
• At the cinema
• Music during the Nazi era
• Charles Mingus
• Wayne Shorter
• Odd metre

The aim of the competition is to encourage an in-depth and creative exploration of the respective theme.

Prizes will be awarded in various categories, such as the band prize, soloist prize, arrangement prize, composition prize and sponsorship prize.
